PURPOSE:To provide the titled composition effective to suppress the decomposition of the injected peptide hormone in high efficiency, to promote the drug activity, and to mitigate the gain of the patient caused by the continuous administration, by adding a collagen derivative to a peptide hormone such as insulin. CONSTITUTION:A peptide hormone, especially insulin, is incorporated with a collagen derivative, especially atherocollagen, to obtain the objective pharmaceutical composition for injection. Insulin useful as a remedy for diabetes decomposes extremely rapidly under the skin and in blood. It has been found that collagenase plays the role of the lyase of insulin, and that the simultaneous administration of collagen which is a protein sensitive to collagenase, preferably atherocollagen having no species specificity, is effective to suppress the decomposition of insulin and to promote the drug action. The present invention can be applied to other peptide drug preparation (e.g. calcitonin, secretin, etc.).
