PURPOSE:To obtain an ingot having a defectless surface characteristic by placing a consumable casting mold consisting of the same metal as the metal of a consumable electrode or different metal in a water-cooled casting mold in tight contact with the inside circumferential surface thereof and remelting the same. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical consumable casting mold 2 is installed in a water- cooled casting mold 1 in tight contact with the inside circumferential wall thereof. The mold 2 may be of the same metal as the metal of a consumable electrode X or different metal. When melting is executed in this state, the mold 2 is simply cooled indirectly and therefore even if a scab-like skull Y sticks on the inside surface of the mold 2, the skull Y and the inside surface side of the mold 2 are melted and united to one body upon rising of a molten pool. Since the outside surface side of the mold 2 is cooled in tight contact with the mold 1, said mold maintains the shape as it is and the ingot having the good outside surface characteristic is obtd. |
