PURPOSE:To obtain best recording for both a thermal transfer recording system and a thermal recording system by a method in which the presence or absence of an ink ribbon in a recorder to be used for both the recording systems is detected, and the heating quantity of a thermal head is varied. CONSTITUTION:Normally opened switch 17 as a detector for the presence or absence of an ink ribbon case is provided on the upside of a carriage 1 and also connected to CPU13a as a heating quantity controller through a connector 9. In the CPU13a, the pulse width of signals coming into a driver 15 through signal line S2 14 is switched as the switch 17 is opened or closed, and the application time (t) of voltage to be applied to the thermal head 3 is switched. The different application times are determined such that best heating quantity W for each of a thermal transfer recording system and a thermal recording system can be obtained. Optimum recording condition for both thermal transfer recording and thermal recorder can thus be obtained. |
