PURPOSE:To prevent oxidation of a weld zone and a decrease in weld strength by supplying an inert gas to the region enclosing the weld zone of a stud and a base metal in the stage of generating an arc between the base metal and the stud and welding the base metal and the stud. CONSTITUTION:A base metal K for welding and a welding gun B are respectively connected by cables L, C to a welding machine and an inert gas supply part F in the chuck E of an inert gas cylinder H and the gun B is connected by a supply pipe G. The gun S mounted with a stud S to be welded to the metal K is positioned and pressed onto the metal K. The operator presses the trigger of the welding gun and detaches the stud S at a specified distance from the surface of the metal K to generate the arc between the stud S and the metal K, thereby welding the stud S and the metal K. An inert gas such as Ar is supplied from the cylinder H to the weld region through a supply pipe G from the stage when the arc is generated until the plunging of the stud S into the base metal K is completed by the control through a cable D by the timer of a control device in a welding machine A, by which the oxidation of the molten weld zone and the consequent deterioration of the weld strength are prevented. |
