PURPOSE:To prevent the inflow of cooling water in the cylindrical part of a cylindrical metallic member and to prevent bumping by disposing said member on the outside circumference in the upper part of a bottom metal, forming the top edge of said cylindrical body to an annular shape and fusing the same to a casting material abutted on the bottom metal. CONSTITUTION:In a vertical type continuous casting device, a cylidrical metallic foil 5 is put on the bottom metal 2 to be inserted into a mold 1 so as to enclose the outside circumference in the upper part of said metal, and the top end part of the foil 5 is folded to the top edge surface side of the metal 2. A material of a melting point slightly lower than that of molten metal M is used for the foil 5. When molten metal is charged through a nozzle 4 in this state, the foil 5 in the circumferential edge part of the metal 2 solidifies together with the metal M after the foil is once fused to the metal M. Thereafter the metal 2 is moved downward at a prescribed speed, and as the ingot is pulled, the cylindrical part of the foil 5 is taken up upward by the shrinkage on solidifition of the ingot to form a wall for preventing the inflow of the cooling water ejecting through the hole 1a of the mold 1 in the space S between the ingot and the top surface of the metal 2, whereby bumping is prevented. |
