PURPOSE:To exclude danger to traveling during deceleration and improve fuel consumption by refraining from control of idling engine speed to the first idle condition when the vehicle is traveling during cooling operation. CONSTITUTION:Judgement is made as to whether an engine is in warming up condition or in cooling condition from the cooling water temperature TW detected by means of a water temperature sensor. If it is in cooling condition, judgement is made as to whether a car speed V is 0 or not. In case said speed V is 0, since a vehicle is stopping, control is performed so as to turn an idling engine speed I to the first idling engine speed IF. In case the car speed V is not 0, since the vehicle is traveling, the above-mentioned control to turn to the first idling engine speed IF is not performed even if the engine is in cooling condition, while control is performed so as to turn said speed to the regular idling engine speed I0 instead. Thus, even during a cooling traveling, deceleration performance about same as that during warming up traveling can be obtained, and danger to traveling during deceleration is excluded, and besides fuel consumption is improved. |
