PURPOSE:To reduce the pomping loss of a supercharger, by providing an exhaust passage with bypass passages which allow exhaust gas to flow bypassing a rotor cell, and as well by controlling the opening and closing of shut-off valves which shut off the communication of the bypass passages, and the drive amounts of valve drive mechanisms which drive the shut-off valves. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 15 receives an ignition switch signal, an engine rotational speed signal, a throttle opening degree signal and a supercharging pressure signal, and detects the operating condition of the engine. A control signal for suitably controlling the timing of supercharge operation of a complex supercharger C on the basis of a control value which is previously stored, as a map or the like, in a memory, in accordance with the thus detected signals, is delivered to solenoids 43-48. When the control signal is received, valve operating mechanisms 43-46 are simultaneously driven to control the opening and closing operation of shut-off valves 37-40 from the position indicated by a chain line to the position indicated by a solid line so as to be opened, so that communications for bypass passages 35, 36 are established. |
