The boiler (1) has a main heating surface (2) which is heated by radiation and an ancillary heating surface (3). The boiler has a circulating pump (5) which delivers the water to the heating installation (6) and the water returns to the boiler through the pipe (8). The main heating surface operates at a higher temp. than the ancillary surface. The region heated by the main heating surface is connected by a pipe (10) to the ancillary surface. This pipe is connected to the return flow pipe (8) at a junction (4) close to the ancillary surface.
