PURPOSE:To attain detailed fault diagnosis from a remote location without requiring work of a subscriber and ringing the bell of a telephone set including a public telephone set by providing a means applying self-diagnosis to a terminal device and transmitting information of fault to a station or a maintenance center. CONSTITUTION:When a public telephone set 1 detects a fault in operation, the set stores a fault code number of corresponding fault classification to a memory 21 backed up by a battery 20. After the public telephone set test mode is set by an attendant board 9 in a telephone station 4, when the dial number of the public telephone set 1 is dialed, a control signal is transmitted to the public telephone set 1 from a test controller 8 and incoming to the public telephone set 1. After a response signal from the public telephone set 1 is received, the test controller 8 transmits a test request signal to the public telephone set 1 by using a signal processing unit 23. When the public telephone set 1 receives this signal, the telephone set control section 13 starts the self-diagnosis program is started and the result is transmitted to the station 4 while a diagnosis result signal is added together with a faulty code number stored already in the memory 21 as the fault in operation. |
