Flexible synthetic sheet material resistant to decay by fungus and other microbial organisms and particularly useful in shoe construction comprising a uniform distribution of a metal-quinolinolate and cellulosic and optionally synthetic fibres within an acrylic elastomeric binder matrix. This material is formed by paper-making techniques from an aqueous furnish obtained by adding to the fibrous pulp a cationic polymer-retaining agent, an ionic emulsion of a metal-quinolinolate, an alkaline metal salt like sodium aluminate to raise the pH value of the furnish, and a polymer colloid such as an acrylic latex which prevents the coagulation of the subsequently added binder, saturating the formed wet web with an acrylic elastomeric binder, and drying said web to form a fibrous sheet. |
