VERTICAL MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

摘要

PURPOSE:To increase the magnetic permeability of a ''Permalloy'' layer in the moving direction of a medium and to enable attainment of an excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristic by making the axis of easy magnetization of the underlying ''Permalloy'' layer having a two-layered film structure in parallel in approximately the transverse direction of a substrate. CONSTITUTION:A vertical magnetization layer 2 and a ''Permalloy'' layer 3 as an underlying layer are provided to a tape-like high polymer substrate 1. The direction of the axis of easy magnetization of the layer 3 is made parallel in approximately the transverse direction of the substrate 1. An external device for impressing a magnetic field is used in combination with a continuous take- up type vacuum deposition device in the case of manufacturing a tape. More specifically the magnetic field in the transverse direction of the substrate is impressed on the tape subjected to the vapor deposition of the layer 3 by a permanent magnet 17 or the external device for impressing magnetic field. The magnetic permeability of the layer 3 in the moving direction of the medium is thus increased and the excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristic is obtd.
