The invention relates to a device for machining and metal-cutting work, for example cutting and chamfering pipes, in particular asbestos cement pipes, said device essentially comprising a driven roller bed on which the pipe to be machined is rotated in the opposite direction to the machining direction, and at least one machining tool adjustable on a machine column by means of a swivel arm. In order to ensure in such a device that possible irregularities in the workpiece to be machined cannot damage the machining tool on account of a sudden increase in machining or cutting depth, according to the invention a construction is proposed that is characterised by the following features: a) a pressing and guide roller (5) that runs over the pipe during the machining operation is provided on the free end of the swivel arm (4), and b) the machining tool (3) including its drive motor is hinged on the swivel arm (4) by means of a further swivel arm (8), an adjustment device (9) connecting the two swivel arms (4 and 8) being provided for the adjustment of the machining or cutting depth of the machining tool (3). <IMAGE>
