The invention is based on a device which can be moved within pipes (1), which device is provided with supporting struts (8) which can be pivoted in a vertical plane and via which the device can be braced within the pipe (1) in order to be able to absorb tensile forces for drawing a further pipe (2) into the sleeve of the ready-laid pipe (1). As a tension device, a hydraulic cylinder (26) engages on the lower part of the supporting strut (8). During laying of specific types of steel pipes, high tensile forces are necessary which in turn require stronger bracing of the vertical supporting struts (8) in the last pipe (1) laid, as a result of which the pipe experiences deformation. In order to avoid such deformation and at the same time to allow higher bracing forces to be applied, in addition, side struts (36) are provided which are arranged in pairs, can be pivoted horizontally and have guide parts (43) which are fitted at their outer ends such that they can pivot and can be braced laterally in the pipe (1) by means of a hydraulic expanding cylinder (40) which engages on them. The side struts (36) are provided with additional tension cylinders (44) in order to draw in the pipe (2) which is to be laid. <IMAGE>
