In order to check the functionality of built-in, closed, electronic heat meters, the electromagnetic field generated by the pulse trains in the heat meter is recorded by an arrangement outside the heat meter and from it pulse trains are obtained which correspond to those in the heat meter. It is possible as a result to determine outside the heat meter the temperature difference determined by it and/or the quantity of heat dissipated, and to make a comparison with separately measured data. <IMAGE>
