An installation for recovering radioactive and/or radioactively contaminated metallic components from no longer operable units of nuclear power stations, such as arise, for example, when nuclear power stations are demolished, has a comminution unit for the metallic components, transport containers for the comminuted material, an electric melting furnace with an extraction device, a device for treating the smelted material through to solidification and a device for transporting away the solidified material, wherein the comminuted material can be introduced by means of the transport container into the electric melting furnace. The transport container is at the same time designed as a non-metallic fusion crucible which can be introduced into the electric melting furnace. The electric melting furnace is designed as an induction furnace which has a collecting trough for the melt which escapes if the fusion crucible breaks. <IMAGE>
