Engageable all-wheel drive system for motor vehicles with stationary all-wheel system components in the disengaged state without the usual differential gear with rotationally connected half-shafts. According to the invention, bi-directional overrunning freewheel clutches are arranged between the half-shafts and wheel hubs, which clutches, if the vehicle is sufficiently steerable, produce a limited-slip differential effect and due to the bi-directional freewheel mechanism on the part of the vehicle wheels ensure stationary system parts for the engageable vehicle axle when the propshaft is disengaged. As a result, light, cost-effective designs of all-wheel system components are possible.
