In order to design roller mills, in particular roller mills operated according to the principle of choke feeding so as to have a throughput of material which can be varied using simple means, particularly when the throughput of the roller mill has to be constantly matched to the throughput of a milling system, connected directly downstream without intermediate stores, for the purpose of grinding the material to the degree of fineness of the finished product, it is proposed according to the invention that, in order to limit the roller gap laterally, in each case a core element or end plate with its underside matched to the circumferential contour of the rollers is arranged in the gusset above the rollers of the roller mill at their end regions, the two core elements being mounted so as to be movable with respect to one another so that, using simple means, the effective width for the intake of material and thus the throughput of the roller mill can be varied. <IMAGE>
