PURPOSE:To measure the refractivity of the measuring surface of a sample by exposing the measuring surface containing an axis line in which the refractivity is varied and that in which the refractivity is not varied, sticking the standard material different in refractivity, and making luminous flux incident on the vicinity of the boundary to measure the refraction critical angle. CONSTITUTION:The refractivity at a point at a specified distance r1 from the center of the measuring sample 1 being a self-converging type optical transmitter body made of transparent columnar body having the refractivity distribution in which it is largest on a center axis line 2 and decrease parabolically toward the outer circumference is measured. The side of the sample 1 is polished to the plane parallel to the line 2 until the distance r1 from the line 2, and a standard medium 4 having known large refractivity is stuck to the measuring surface 3. A parallel luminous flux 5 is made incident parallelly on the line 2 on the vicinity containing the sample 2 and the boundary of a main prism 4, max. total reflection critical angle is detected from a light 6 direction by a telescope, etc. to obtain the max. refractivity on the measuring surface of the sample. By selecting the distance r1 suitably, the refractivity at an arbitrary point can be measured. |
