PURPOSE:To improve the heat resistance of an optical fiber by using fluororesin for a plastic covered layer provided to the outer periphery of an optical fiber element wire and adding potassium titanate. CONSTITUTION:Fluororesin is used for at least part of the covered layer 12 of the optical fiber core formed by providing the plastic covered layer 12 to the outer periphery of the optical fiber element wire 8, and K4TiO4 is added to the covered layer 12. When heat exceeding the resolving temperature of the fluororesin is applied to this optical fiber core, HF gas is produced, but this gas is absorbed by the covered layer itself and K4TiO413 and 14 at the outer periphery to protect the optical fiber element wire 8. Consequently, the heat resistance of the optical fiber core is improved. Further, the K4TiO4 fiber 13 is interposed as a layer 14 between a buffer coat 10 and a secondary coating 11 to improve a slip between layers and improve plasticity, and heat shrinkage of the resin is absorbed to reduce transmission loss, thereby improving the heat resistance preferably. Further, when K4TiO4 is mixed with the fluororesin, the efficiency of HF gas absorption is improved. |
