PURPOSE:To manufacture granules having a significant corrosion preventing effect on metal by granulating powdery sodium silicate in the presence of an org. substance having a specified m.p. in a nonaqueous system. CONSTITUTION:Powdery sodium silicate is granulated by extrusion at 45-90 deg.C in the presence of an org. substance having >=40 deg.C m.p. to form granules. The powdery sodium silicate consists of SiO2 and Na2O in (2.0-3.5):1 molar ratio, and the amount of the sodium silicate in the granules is 40-80wt%. The org. substance having >=40 deg.C m.p. is polyethylene glycol having 4,000-20,000mol.wt. or an adduct of 12-22C straight or branched chain higher alcohol to polyethylene oxide, and the amount of the org. substance in the granules is 5-30wt%. To the granules may be added an inorg. salt such as sodium sulfate, a polymer such as polyvinyl alcohol or a surfactant.
