RELEASE & ALIGNMENT MECHANISM FOR JET-PROPELLED PROJECTILS

A projectile-release mechanism facilitates launching of a jet- propelled projectile in the form of a spherical spinstabilized missile. The mechanism includes a nozzle extending from the projectile, including a fusible joint that is heated by the high- temp. exhaust gases expelled by the projectile during release. A projectile support includes an open-ended receptacle coaxially placed with the nozzle to receive the nozzle and support the projectile. Forward and rear facing shoulders on the support engage complementary rear and forward facing shoulders on the nozzle to retain the nozzle in the receptacle and permit the fore and aft sections of the nozzle to move out of the open ends of the receptable during fusing and separation of the fusible joint.
