PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR FORMING SEALING GASKETS IN CONTAINER CLOSURES

A container closure-lining machine comprises a turret 3' equipped with a pluraliy of moulding punches which shape a quantity of plastisol, introduced by an injection unit 29' over the periphery of an infeed star wheel 27', to form gaskets and to heat the gaskets to a temperature sufficient to initiate foaming of the gasket by release of a blowing agent in the plastisol. Subsequently the container closures pass an infra-red emitting device 17c which applies further heat to the shaped gasket and prompts completion of the foaming step.
