MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PURPOSE:To improve a magnetic characteristic and surface smoothness by treating the surface of magnetic powder with a silane coupling agent having a vinyl group and graft-polymerizing a vinyl monomer thereon. CONSTITUTION:The surface of magnetic powder is first treated with a silane coupling agent having a vinyl group so that the silane coupling agent is securely stuck and bound thereto. The silane coupling agent is adequately used at 0.1- 5wt% by the weight of the magnetic powder. A vinyl monomer is then graft- polymerized with the surface-treated magnetic powder. The vinyl monomer is preferably used at about 10-100wt% by the weight of the magnetic powder. The grafted and surface-treated magnetic powder has excellent dispersibility to a resin binder curable by electron rays thus contributing to an improvement in the magnetic characteristic, surface smoothness and durability of the magnetic recording medium curable by electron rays.
