PURPOSE:To enable to reduce memory capacity, by a method wherein an output character pattern supplied from a font memory and rule image data generated by a rule image generator are synthesized with each other with one dot as a unit, in a printer for a word-processor. CONSTITUTION:A fundamental image pattern in a main scanning direction of a horizontal rule or a vertical rule to be printed is varied by a DMA controller 70 in accordance with the manner of transferring black data from an input/output port 60 to the first or second image buffer 41 or 42, 43. In accordance with the manner in which horizontal or vertical rule image data stored in the image buffer 41 or 42, 43 are read by a controller 10, the fineness of the horizontal rule or the length and the kind of the vertical rule are varied, respectively. Since a plurality of vertical rule image buffers 42, 43 are provided, the vertical rule line can be synthesized with the character pattern in the font memory 20 with one dot as a unit while maintaining a high speed, even where broken lines, solid lines and the like differing in recording period are mixed in the same raster line. |
