<p>The roller conveyor transports heavy non-fragile goods using a substructure to mount rollers (10) which both support and propel the loads. The rollers are of the friction type, mounted on drive axles (9) normal to the flow, each axle being driven through bevel gears (13,14) and by a shaft (11) running alongside the conveyor. Each axle is in one piece, spanning two full length longitudinals (7) comprising the substructure, accommodating two rollers straddling the feed. - The rollers may be mounted on cantilevered stub axles with drive shafts running along both sides of the conveyor, the drive shafts and the soffit may be cased (27,29), and demountable guide rails (26) may be used, together with tempered and rectified rollers (10) mounted on bronze sleeves (22).
