<p>One end of the plate (5) is gripped between the jaws of a vice (3) in an axial groove (2) in the plate-carrying cylinder (1), and secured by screws (12). The plate is stretched over the cylinder and its other end is placed between the jaws of another vice (4) in the same groove (2) and secured by other screws (14). - Hydraulic jacks distributed uniformly along the lower jaw of the second vice (4) stretch the plate as their pistons (17) bear upon the adjacent radial surface (19) of the groove. The vice is locked in position by a gripper (27) under the control of screws (30), and the hydraulic pressure is released.</p> |
