The process consists of (a) saturating the grain with water without initiating germination, by keeping 1 kg. grain for around 7 days in 4l. water at 0 deg.C; (b) removing and externally drying the grain, using a strainer; and (c) obtaining the basic data which defines the density-compsn. correlation, by placing the humidified seeds in a suitable vessel contg. 3l. hexane, to which carbon tetrachloride is gradually added.
