PURPOSE:To retrieve character strings at a high speed by generating automatically partial strings of an input character string and accessing these partial strings to repeat retrieval. CONSTITUTION:If a designated character string is used as a key to perform retrieval and a pertinent character string does not exist as the result, there is much probability that a character string to be retrieved next exists in an input buffer managed by the access method. Consequently, contents of an input buffer 15 are retrieved when partial strings are retrieved. If partial strings of the designated character string the generated within the access method, the number of calls of the access method from an application program 1 is reduced.
