PURPOSE:To carry out uniform infusibilization and activation in a firing furnace and obtain the titled fibers having little variation in strength and specific surface area, by activating pitch based active carbon fibers in the form of a fiber bundle arranged uniformly throughout the zone of given width on a belt. CONSTITUTION:Pitch based fibers spun from a rotating spinning dish 1 are collected in collection arms 3 of a collection device 2, and blown out of a nozzle 4 with blowing air to form a fiber bundle 5, which is then dropped through fiber bundle guide members 9 and 9' reciprocating correspondingly by cylinders 6 and 6' onto a belt 8 moving in a direction perpendicular to the surface of paper to this side. The fiber bundle 5 is then infusibilized and activated in a firing furnace placed in the forward side of the belt 8 to give the aimed fibers.
