PURPOSE:To produce L-lysine in high productivity, by culturing an L-lysine-producing mutant belonging to Brevibacterium genus and having lowered pyruvic acid kinase activity and pyruvic acid dehydrogenase activity, in a liquid medium. CONSTITUTION:A mutant belonging to Brevibacterium genus, having high L- lysine-producing activity and having the properties to lower the pyruvic acid kinase activity and lower the pyruvic acid dehydrogenase activity in the properties of known L-lysine-priducing strain, e.g. Brevibacterium flavum AJ12121 (FERM-P No.7441), is cultured in a liquid medium, and L-lysine produced and accumulated in the culture liquid is separated to obtain L-lysine in high productivity. The above mutant can be produced by conventional mutagenic treatment, e.g. ultraviolet irradiation, etc. of a microorganism of Brevibacterium genus known as an L-glutamic acid-producing strain.
