A method of manufacturing a printer's blanket comprises coating a flexible backing having two or more plies of fabric laminated together with a layer of rubber or rubber-like vulcanizable material, the coated structure being vulcanized by heated air p without increasing the pressure acting thereon above atmospheric pressure and at a temperature sufficient to vulcanize the coating to form microporous openings. The backing, is passed many times through a spreader to deposit thereon, thin layers of the rubber material. The blanket is then subjected to heated air, preferably in the range 190 DEG to 250 DEG F., the microporous openings being formed by minute quantities of gas and substances released by the heat of vulcanization. The rubber material composition may be as follows (parts by weight) rubber 30, 75/25 butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymer 70, sulphur 2, thiazole type accelerator 1,5, carbon black 70, zinc oxide 5, lauric acid 1,5, and dibenzyl ether softener 30. |
