Thermo-setting organic synthetic resins mixed, together with asbestos fibres are used to make heat-resistant liners for rocket motors. Ureaformaldehyde resins and amino-triazine-aldehyde resins, e.g. melamine-formaldehyde and furfuryl alcohol resins, furfuryl alcohol formaldehyde resins and furfuryl alcohol furfural resins, may be used. Epoxy resins may also be employed. Triallyl cyanurate resins, diethylene glycol bisallyl carbonate resins and diallyl phthalate resins may also be used as well as polyester resins. The polyester can be made from glycols and unsaturated dibasic acids of which examples are given. As the monomer component of the polyester resins styrene or the vinyl toluenes may be used. A styrene modified condensation product of propylene glycol with a mixture of phthalic anhydride, and maleic anhydride is given as an example of such a polyester resin. There may be present in the polyester mix other monomers such as various substituted styrenes, allyl esters, methyl methacrylate or vinyl acetate. Specification 681,001 and U.S.A. Specification 2,528,417 are referred to.
