PURPOSE:To produce L-aspartic acid, in high efficiency, by treating fumaric acid and ammonia (donor) with a specific microorganism in an aqueous medium. CONSTITUTION:The present process uses a microbial strain belonging to citrobacter genus, Hafnia genus or Xantomonas genus, capable of producing L-aspartic acid in high efficiency from fumaric acid and ammonia [or an ammonia donor (e.g. ammonium acetate, ammonium sulfate, etc.)], and permeating fumaric acid easily through the cell membrane. The above microbial strain is cultured in a medium containing furmaric acid and ammonia (donor), and the produced L- aspartic acid is separated from the product. As an alternative method, the cell of the microorganism or its treated product is made to contact with fumaric acid and ammonia (donor) in an aqueous solution. |
