PURPOSE:To protect a tape from dust and human hands by making a projected material which engages upper and lower flat plates work as a supporting material for a sliding cover energizing means in a tape cassette consisting of a pair of upper and lower flat plates and more than two side plates. CONSTITUTION:A front face of a tape 7 is covered with a freely turnable turning cover 16 at its rear location 23 from its opening part 15 when a cassette is not in use. A sliding cover 33 slides inside a face sandwiched between faces 26 and 28 and covers a notched part 25. When the cassette is in use, the cover 33 is moved backward, which covers the notched part 25 and a turning cover 16 is turned clockwise, which covers the front face of the tape 7. A projected material 48 which is fitted to a projected material 64 is formed on an upper flat plate 11, and an energizing means 47 is wound around the material 48 to open or close the cover 33.
