PURPOSE:To facilitate a switch in superchargers without causing generation of surging by sequentially controlling opening/closing valves installed at the inlet to a supercharger exhaust turbine and at the outlet from a supercharger blower and another opening/closing valve installed in a divergent pipe between the blower outlet and its corresponding opening/closing valve. CONSTITUTION:In an engine having a plurality of cylinders 4 and equipped with a scavenging pipe 3 on the suction side and an exhaust pipe 5 on the exhaust side, wherein two superchargers 1, 2 are arranged, butterfly valves a, b are furnished at the inlet to the exhaust turbine 2T of No.2 supercharger 2 and the outlet from the blower 2B. Another butterfly valve c for release of scavenge gas is furnished in a divergent pipe between said outlet from blower 2B and its valve b. To start the supercharger 2, first the valve a is opened fully by an action for approx. 3-18sec, then the valve b is opened full in approx. 3-15sec and finaly the valve c is fully closed in 3-12sec. To stop the supercharger 2, first the valve c is opened fully by an action for approx. 3-12sec, and then valves b, a are fully closed gradually one after the other. |
