A hot rolled and heat treated concrete-reinforcing steel, which has a minimum yield strength of 500 MPa at 6-32 mm nominal diameter and which is universally weldable, contains 0.17-0.50% Si, 0.55-1.10% Mn, 0.0-0.50% Cr, 0.0-0.40% Cu, 0.0-0.20% Mo and 0.0-0.50% Ni. The total alloying effect on the yield strength is limited by the alloying equivalent LA given by LA=Mn%;0.7(Si%+Cr%+Cu%)+2Mo%+0.4Ni% LA pref. being greater than 1.25 but less than 1.85.
