The invention relates to a ship propulsion assembly mounted on the hull of this ship and comprising a propulsion unit 11. This propulsion assembly comprises a well 3 securely fastened to the hull of the ship 1, 2 and equipped with a lower opening 5 allowing the passage of the unit 11 for retracting this unit inside the well; a guiding path 7, 18 for the unit 11; a selective immobilisation device 26, 28 for the unit 11 in the ''out of the well'' position; and a lifting member 16, 19, 22 for the unit 11, contained in the well and securely fastened 25, 27 to this well.
