Process for plasticising solid wood and derived timber products in a plasticising cylinder

Wood and derived timber products are plasticised with the aid of high-frequency alternating fields with the aim of subsequently bending the pieces of wood. The process is used for simplifying the production of bent parts of furniture and curved parts in the timber industry. In this process, the wooden ledges are plasticised in a sealed container between the electrodes of the work capacitor of the high-frequency oscillating circuit. The advantage achieved in comparison with conventional processes by steaming consists in the fact that the moisture content of the wooden ledges is not increased. The operation can even be improved in as far as dry wood (moisture content at the beginning of plasticising between 10 and 20 per cent) is used, so that approximately 20 minutes after the bending, i.e. after the wood has cooled, the article can be processed at the fabrication level. The wooden parts are bent on the usual bending machines. The plasticising times of wooden ledges with the dimensions 1300 mm x 60 mm x 20 mm are between two and three minutes. This corresponds approximately to the time required for bending, thus opening up a possibility for mechanisation or automation of the process.
