PURPOSE:To provide the titled remedy capable of controlling the intrusion of Ca ion in hepatic cell and protecting the hepatic cell from hepatopathic substance, and useful for the remedy and prevention of hepatopathy, by using a verapamil derivative known as a remedy for circulatory diseases as an active component. CONSTITUTION:Verapamil of formula {chemical name; 5-[(3,4-dimethoxyphenetyl) methylamino]-2-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-isopropylvaleronitrile}, its acid addition salt and their derivative is used as a remedy for hepatopathy. The compound of formula suppresses the excessive intrusion of Ca ion in the hepatic cell caused by the attack with a hepatopathic substance by the Ca antagonistic action, and prevents the necrosis of the hepatic cell. Effective for the remedy and prevention of hepatic diseases such as hepatitis, jecur adiposum, hepatocirrhosis, etc. Dose: 5-500mg daily by oral or parenteral administration.
