PURPOSE:To enhance the recording sensitivity and the S/N ratio in reading of an optical recording medium having a liquid crystal layer and capable of being written and reduce deterioration on erasing or reproduction, by a construction wherein a layer comprising a cyanine dye based on indolenine and a quencher is provided as a light- absorbing electrode layer. CONSTITUTION:The optical recording medium comprises the first base comprising the light-absorbing electrode layer, the second base comprising a transparent electrode layer, and a recording layer comprising a liquid crystal and provided between the first and the second base. The first base consists of a glass, a resin, a metal or the like, and the electrode layer is provided on the surface thereof. The electrode layer functions also as a light-absorbing layer, which comprises a cyanine dye and a quencher. A cyanine dye based on indolenine represented by formula [ I ], wherein each of PHI and PSI is an indolenine ring, a thiazole ring, an oxazole ring, a selenazole ring, an imidazole ring or a pyridine ring, with which an aromatic ring may be condensed, at least one of PHI and PSI being an indolenine ring with which an aromatic ring may be condensed, L is a methine chain, X<-> is an anion, and (m) is 0 of 1, is preferably used. The quencher is preferably a transition metal chelate compound. The second base consists of a glass, a transparent resin or the like, and a transparent or translucent electrode layer consisting of a metal or the like is provided on the surface thereof. |
