<p>A roller drive conveyor (20) for conveying a rectangular, planar rigid article. Prior conveyors for conveying such articles have either not permitted work to be done on the underside of such articles or have not facilitated accurate alignment of the article because of positive gripping forces or positive compressive forces applied to the side edges of the articles. The conveyor (20) includes two opposed, spaced apart rows of individually mounted wheels (46) having a bottom flange (61), the upper surface of which is substantially horizontal and provides the only conveying contact. The rows of wheels are spaced apart a distance such that no inward compressive forces are applied to the article. In a specific embodiment, a magazine (26) for storing a stack of the articles and an extractor (74) in operative relationship with the conveyor (20) for extracting the objects from the magazine (26) and feeding them to the conveyor are provided. In other specific embodiments, the conveyor (20) includes a test station (24) with a stop pin (511) and locating pins (507) for accurately positioning the conveyed article.</p> |
