PRODUCTION OF SLIDING MEMBER FOR INTEGRATED TYPE COMPOSITE MATERIAL BRAKE

PURPOSE:To form a product of an integrated type composite member having good quality by pouring a molten flake graphite cast iron through a sprue to a sliding part up to a specified height and pouring and filling a molten spheroidal graphite cast iron into a hub part through another sprue thereby attaining satisfactory cold shut fusion. CONSTITUTION:A molten metal of a flake graphite structure is poured through a sprue 5 and a gate 12 into a space 6 of a sliding part up to a specified height while the outflow of the molten metal from an overflow path to a tundish 7 is checked 13. The molten metal or a spheroidal graphite cast iron or vermicular graphite cast iron structure is poured and filled through another sprue 9 into the space 10 of a hub part when the molten metal temp. attains a 800-1,140 deg.C range. Both molten metals fuse satisfactorily to each other with substantially no intervention of an oxide film, etc. and mixing of the different kinds of the molten metals, thus providing the sliding part 6 having good heat transmission, resistance to wear and good attenuating power and the hub part having good mechanical properties in the case of the above-mentioned cold shut temp. range. The sliding member for the integrated type brake is thus made safe and long in life and the cost thereof is reduced.
