PURPOSE:To attain still image pickup and its recording without losing a shutter chance by constituting the camera that a picture to an image pickup element is fetched when the 2nd release is operated before a magnetic disc reaches a recordable state and the picture signal from the image pickup element is read and the recording to the magnetic disc is started after the magnetic disc reaches the recordable state. CONSTITUTION:When the 2nd release is operated before the magnetic disc 13 reaches a recordable constant speed and a specified phase, the inhibiting state of picture read is continued. When the magnetic disc 13 is transited to the recordable state, one frame's share of picture signal is read from an image sensor 5, and a modulation video signal corresponding to the picture signal is outputted from a signal recording circuit 9 at the same time and recorded on the magnetic disc 13 via a recording amplifier 11 and a recording head 12.
