PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive composite billet by placing desired number of composite bars made by inserting NbTi bars in a Cu tube in a large diameter Cu tube, filling the cavities with copper powder etc., and making hot extrusion. CONSTITUTION:Desired number of composite bars made by inserting NbTi bars in small diameter oxygen-free Cu tubes are placed in a large diameter Cu tube. Cavities formed at this time are filled with copper or copper alloy powder of high purity. A cover made of Cu is welded at an end and inside is made vacuous. An inexpensive composite billet can be obtained simply by making hot extrusion. As Cu powder etc. are used as filler, the cavities of random shape can be filled easily, and the sealing process is made simple.
