Machine for driving roadways and tunnels, with running gear, in particular crawler-type running gear, slewing ring, shearing arm pivotable about the slewing-ring axis (vertical in normal position), and shearing head. In addition, the shearing arm can be moved up and down about a horizontal axis by a vertical drive. A floor-sensing loading unit projects from the crawler-type running gear, and a discharging conveyor, connected to the machine, for the won rock is attached to this loading unit. The shearing arm has at least one additional applied-pressure cylinder/piston arrangement which is supported on the floor-sensing loading unit. The applied-pressure cylinder/piston arrangement is attached on the one hand to the shearing arm and on the other hand to the floor-sensing loading unit and, during swivelling of the shearing arm about the slewing-ring axis and if need be about the shearing-arm axis, can thereby be set at an angle. <IMAGE>
