PURPOSE:To improve the combustion efficiency of coke layer, by utilizing aqueous gas obtainable from the reaction of coke and water vapor. CONSTITUTION:When a flow controlling valve 5 is opened, then water 6 flows into a combustion furnace 1 and is heated by red-hot coke layer 2 and is boiled while meandering and is turned into water vapor inside an arranged pipe 3a to jet into the coke layer 2. At the opening portion the water vapor is activated in contact with red-hot platinum producing aqueous gas acted upon the coke layer 2, and is spread throughout the combustion furnace 1 during the ascending through coke layer 3, and is acted upon oxygen in air coming from a fire grate 1 to quicken the combustion of the coke layer 2.
