PURPOSE:To obtain a rotary head assembly with high reliability and durability and excellent input/output characteristic for a video signal by adopting a dynamic pressure generating mechanism constituting a slope as a shape near a magnetic head fitting window so as to avoid the tape contact at the head fitting window thereby suppressing wear to the utmost. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic head fitting window 8 of a turning member is provided with a taper form chamfer having a length of l and a maximum depth of delta at the magnetic head fitting window edge part at the downsteam of a magnetic head 7. A tape 1 just after it passes through the magnetic head 7 is sucked toward the inside because of a negative pressure produced when the magnetic head 7 pushes and spreads momentarily the tape 1. Since the taper part is provided to the magnetic head fitting window, even after the tape is sucked, the head does not contact a window wall face (k). Thus, the wear due to tape at the magnetic head fitting window part which is deformed due to protruded tape in contact therewith conventionally is avoided completely.
