PURPOSE:To prepare an intermetallic compound super-conductor, in preparing the super-conductor comprising the intermetallic compound, by precipitating the intermetallic compound from a solid solution of a metal for forming said intermetallic compound. CONSTITUTION:In preparing a super-conductor comprising an intermetallic compound such as Nb3Al, componential metal powders are sealed in a soft steel pipe in a specific compositional ratio and said pipe is evacuated and the inlet thereof is hermetically closed. The whole is held in a hot hydrostatic press at 1,200 deg.C under 1,000atm. for 3hr to perform molding. Next, the solidified solid solution is taken out of the pipe body and melted on a disc rotating at 30,000rpm by laser beam and scattered in a fine powdery form by centrifugal force and quenched. This solid solution powder is put in a Cu-pipe and, after evacuation, the whole is drawn into a fine wire which is, in turn, heated at 900 deg.C for 5hr to precipitate Nb3Al in the wire material. By this method, a super-conductor comprising pure Nb3Al and having high critical current density is obtained.
