PURPOSE:To precisely perform adjustment of clamping of an adjusting plug for adjusting, at an appropriate value, a rotation torque of an input shaft which is in linkage to a steering wheel, by performing the same adjustment through feeding back the value of actual measurement for rotation torque of the input shaft. CONSTITUTION:In the captioned steering device with quantity of a backlash, between its helical pinion (unillustrated) provided on the tip of an input shaft 2 and a rack 4 engaged with said pinion, optionally set through adjusting a quantity of clamping of an adjusting plug 8, at the time of clamping said plug 8 by means of a motor 11, the plug 8 is clamped by a constant torque while measuring the clamping torque by means of a torque sensor 15. Then, the plug 8 is returned by a certain angle under watching by an angle sensor 23, and rotation torque is measured by a torque sensor 19 while rotating the input shaft 2 by means of a motor 16 in this condition. The rotation torque is then compared with a set value and, according to the deflection, a control signal correcting the clamping quantity for the plug 8 is outputted to control a motor 11. |
