A glass envelope for a cathode-ray tube with a glass panel section which has a faceplate of substantially rectangular shape with long and short sides, the faceplate having inner and outer surfaces. Radii of curvature of the inner and outer surfaces are established so that: (Rso-Rsi)>(Rlo-Rli) and ti (Rso-Rsi)>(Rdo-Rdi), where Rsi, Rli, Rdi and Rso, Rlo, Rdo are inner and outer surface radii, respectively, for the lateral axis, the longitudinal axis and the diagonal axis of the faceplate, respectively.
